What’s new on the boat

Captain on boat
October 22, 2021

October is typically one of the slowest months of the year here in the Florida Keys. It’s the perfect time to tackle maintenance on our 29′ World Cat boat.

When the rest of the country goes back to work and school, those of us working in the tourism and hospitality business start to catch our breath again.

After a busy spring and summer here in Key Largo, we noticed a few things around the boat that needed some TLC attention.

Here are a few things I’ve been up to:

We replaced the floor!

Everyone loves the cushiony feel of the foam flooring underfoot, but as the Captain and CBW (Chief Boat Washer), I did not love how the edges of it kept coming loose.

And I really did not love how easily the light color picked up stains. That’s why I’ve been so picky about getting everyone to take their shoes off.

After a bunch of research and shopping around — and a brief footwear-optional period when there was no flooring at all on the boat — the new custom decking has finally been installed.

What do you think?

Coast Guard Safety Inspection

As a vessel carrying six or fewer passengers for hire, the Lucky Fish must comply with the law, carry all required equipment and have a licensed master.

Every year in October, we ask the local US Coast Guard Auxiliary to conduct an additional safety examination of our boat. They thoroughly review our life jackets, fire extinguishers, radio, and posted safety information, among other items.

I’m proud to say that once again, we passed the test and proudly display our updated official decal.
